CD review Avril Lavigne 'Let Go'

From the Penarth Times, first published Thursday 7th Nov 2002.

AVRIL Lavigne is a relatively new face on the music scene.

Her current single in the charts, Complicated, is an up-beat track which features on her new album Let Go, and is fairly typical of her work so far.

The 18-year-old does not pretend to be anything that she isn't.

Her lyrics come through to the listener as those of an adolescent making sense of life as she sees it, as shown in track 10, My World.

But don't be put off thinking her songs will be frivolous or, on the other side of the coin, full of teenage angst.

There are some very sensitive words coming from Avril and her backing band obviously fit well together. Her voice is slightly punk, but with a very sweet edge in some songs, like Tomorrow.

It could be all for the cameras, but the video for Complicated shows her band as close friends having fun, and this does come through in their music.

With 13 tracks to offer, plus enhanced CD features of photos, lyrics and special video footage, Avril certainly gives value for money, and a very enjoyable sound to listen to.
