Penarth Youth 68pts Llandaff Youth 0
AT LAST Penarth's talented young men who are showing such promise have played and won the last game in the local round of the BT Youth League and now they can look forward to a draw which can take them anywhere in Wales.
They are also in the WRU East District Cup which puts them at home to St Peters and in the Cardiff and Vale Cup they will play the winners of a Canton and St Peters preliminary match.
The Youth have dominated the local League with the exception of the matches against Glamorgan Wanderers where a draw away spoilt their clean sweep ambitions.
If the opposition is not strong enough the Seasiders have an understandable tendency to ease off and in the face of teams with a high reputation they have in the past been overawed which is a habit they need to "psyche out" of.
Last Saturday the Youth came out of their half like a cannon ball and a try came within seconds of the kick off. They then proceeded to rain attacks and tries on the brave Llandaff squad so that 41-nil appeared on the scoreboard at half-time.
Two Penarth players, David James and later Steve Roberts played for Llandaff and helped the visitors to make a defiant comeback in the second half, but without scoring despite some near misses as Penarth eased off, making some simple errors as several players sought the glory of their own try.
Penarth squad: Kyle Blake, James Carling (1 try), Richard Merrett, Richard Ball, John Boland (1 try), Terence Rosoman (1 try), Dai Roberts, Scott Pearson, Simon Davies (1 try), Geraint Blake (7 conversions), Daniel Read (1 try), Tom Draper (2 tries), Gareth Jones (2 tries), Lewis Williams, Steve Roberts. Subs: Matthew Calford, James Williams, James Coslett (2 tries), Mark Sadler.
This week the Youth are looking for a Pool match on Friday night or on Sunday because of the Wales-Italy international.
Penarth Youth player Leon Andrews (pictured) has now been capped twice for the Welsh Youth out in Portugal and scored a try last Thursday. Leon, who lives in Bridge Street, Cogan and attends St Cyres school, has come up through Penarth Mini and Junior RFC and the whole club is very proud of his success.
