A PENARTH schoolgirl has been shortlisted for a prestigious business enterprise award.
Beth Coslett, 17, of Stanwell Comprehensive School, has been named as one of the finalists for a Young Enterprise Wales Award.
Beth is in the running in the Young Achiever category of the Welsh Woman of the Year Awards.
The Penarth youngster is a board member on a company called `Niche' specialising in interactive learning.
One of the firm's products is a computerised interactive learning guide called Quizmonkey designed for primary school pupils.
Beth said: "Quizmonkey's selling point is its versatility. It can be adapted for any subject or language so its potential is limitless.
"Business studies is not available as an A-Level subject at my school so the Young Enterprise scheme has proved a great way of developing the skills needed to be successful in business."
Beth put together a business and marketing plan for Niche and was co-author of its final report.
As marketing director of the company she identified and investigated target consumers through market research.
Quizmonkey spin-offs include radio torches, glow sticks, door signs and fridge magnets.
Beth also made it to The Exporters Award final held in Llandrindod Wells after Niche was judged the best company in south-east Wales. Niche's end-of-year profit was £869.46.
Beth recently met First Minister Rhodri Morgan and Prince Charles at the Queen's Awards for Industry event held at St David's Hotel in Cardiff Bay. The Young Achiever award is aimed at young women who have taken part in the Young Enterprise Company Programme while in full-time education.
The programme aims to develop leadership, teamwork and communication skills.
The winner of the category will be unveiled at a glittering ceremony to be held at Cardiff International Arena on November 19.
The highlight of the evening will be the crowning of the overall Welsh Woman of the Year.
